Hotell Södra Berget: Sundsvall, Sweden

When we found out that we would be travelling to Sundsvall for a regional conference we decided to use it to our advantage and book a spa trip at the Hotel Södra Berget.

We booked the Sparadise package during our stay which included two nights in a standard double room with breakfast, late night access to the spa and a meal in the Bistro which was really good value for money.

There are two main highlights to this hotel. One is the view. Because it is located on top of a hill the views from most bedrooms, the restaurant and even the spa are just incredible. You can see for miles and with the low autumn sun, the colours were simply perfect.

The other highlight is the spa. It is so well thought out over two floors. The floor plan is long and thin so that at almost every point, you can enjoy the beautiful scenic views over Sundsvall and the hills beyond whether you are soaking in the hot tub or sweating in the sauna. It was the perfect blend of my two favourite things.

The Bistro also shares the same views and is a striking design. With plenty of seating you can enjoy the bustling atmosphere whilst enjoying your own private space. We tried a range of meals and the pizza was by far the best. The breakfast is also served in the Bistro and it is a typical Swedish breakfast buffet but with the added bonus of an omelette chef.

Overall our stay here at Hotell Södra Berget was mixed. Although we really enjoyed the spa, the pizza and we especially loved the views, the bedrooms were loud and noisy which at times defeated the point of a relaxing stay. If they could just invest some money on sound proofing instead of offering complimentary ear plugs, it would have been the perfect stay for us. Or maybe our love of Japan and their quiet culture has just spoiled us more than we realised and we’re finding it really hard to go back! Who knows! But I won’t complain about the view from our room…

We enjoyed our short trip to Sundsvall and we looking forward to heading up north again some time in the future but for now the views from Hotel Södra Berget will remind us why we need to go back.

Until next time…

It was our first trip to Sundsvall and in autumn the colours are beautiful. If you get to visit in another season, I would love to know what you think 🤗
