Two years ago Rob’s family came together and decided to do something special in 2024 to celebrate his parents turning 80.
As we’re all based in different parts of the world, we agreed to all reunite back in the UK for a big family get together like the old days and visit somewhere new. With Robyn’s careful planning we decided on Anglesey in northern Wales.
A mere 2 and a bit hours away from Bury, it was an easy drive and the views once entering Wales were just stunning. Now I’ll be honest and say when I heard we were going to Wales I wasn’t disappointed but I also wasn’t bowled over. Like most of Britain I envisioned a lot of grey clouds, rain and wind but I will eat my words and say Wales impressed me greatly, even when the weather was a bit chilly.
Anglesey is actually an island off mainland Wales connected by a bridge. The house we rented was called Ty Carmel Cottage which was almost central of the island.

It had a huge back garden with plenty of space for a family cricket game and swings for the kids.
The inside had one large living space and a kitchen with an extra large dining table.

There were six large bedrooms, all various sizes with four en suites and two big bathrooms. It was perfect for housing all 16 of us.

The house was a mere 15-30mins to most towns and villages on the island but we favored Rhosneigr and a delightful restaurant called the Oyster Catcher.

From here you could get food, coffee, have a drink outdoors and then walk to the beach.

We spent a lot of time here and it was beautiful.

During our stay we also took in a little culture visiting Beaumaris Castle in the little town of Beaumaris.
It’s a little pricey at £10 per adult and from the outside, you could be put off but don’t. As you move deeper into the grounds, you realize that it is an impressive site with plenty to see and some beautiful views.

It was a great place to explore as a whole family, finishing with some fish and chips before heading back to the house.

Wales 2024 was such a special trip. It was the first time the whole family had been together in 10 years and we had a few more additions since then.

From the location to the atmosphere, we loved our time in Wales and the stunning beauty it has to offer. The careful planning and organising from Robyn, Kieran and Les made it a holiday to remember!
There is so much more to see and I will definitely take it more seriously as a holiday destination in the future.
We will be spending some extra quality family time at home before heading to Rhodes for a mini break on our way back to Sweden.
Until then…
